# Can I trade news?

Yes. PropW allows news trading.

News trading refers to a trading strategy where traders open, close, or adjust positions based on economic data, financial announcements, geopolitical events, and other market-moving news.

PropW understands that many traders closely monitor financial news and macroeconomic events as part of their trading strategies. Major announcements—such as interest rate decisions, inflation data, employment reports, central bank statements, and other significant economic releases—can cause substantial market volatility and create potential trading opportunities.

### Are There Any Restrictions on News Trading?

PropW does not prohibit traders from trading during news events. You may open, close, or manage your positions before, during, or after major news releases, provided that your trading activity complies with all applicable PropW trading rules.

News trading itself is not considered a violation.

However, traders are still responsible for complying with PropW’s risk management and trading rules, including applicable requirements related to:

* Maximum Drawdown
* Daily Loss Limits
* Profit Targets
* Position and risk management
* Trading hours and holding requirements
* Any other rules applicable to your selected challenge or trading account

### What Happens During Major News Releases?

Financial markets can experience significant volatility around major economic announcements. During these periods, you may experience:

* Rapid price movements
* Increased market volatility
* Wider spreads
* Increased slippage
* Temporary price gaps
* Faster or slower order execution depending on market conditions

These conditions are normal characteristics of financial markets. Traders should take them into consideration when managing positions and risk.

### Can I Open a Trade Before a News Release?

Yes. PropW does not generally prohibit traders from holding positions through scheduled news events.

However, you remain responsible for any resulting market movements, including significant losses caused by volatility, slippage, or price gaps.

### Can I Close a Trade During a News Release?

Yes. You may manage your positions during news events, subject to normal market execution conditions and the trading rules applicable to your account.

Please note that execution prices may differ from expected prices during periods of extreme volatility due to market liquidity and slippage.

### Important Reminder

News trading is permitted, but news trading does not provide any exemption from PropW’s trading rules or risk limits.

Traders should carefully assess market conditions and use appropriate risk management when trading around major economic events.

In short: News trading is allowed on PropW, but all trades must comply with the applicable PropW rules.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.propw.com/propw-trading-rules/can-i-trade-news.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
